Fitness Photography – 2XU

These are test shots for 2XU apparel that is sold by my client, One Tri. Caitlin did a great job showing off the product photography, since she is in great shape herself. As a professional dancer, she has a build that is perfect for fitness photography. The poses here are fairly simple and consist of stretches and posturing.

Model – Laura

Laura is a beautiful dancer, and that grace shows in her modeling and posture. With this session, we did mostly studio portrait photos with a small bit in a sauna for some steamy, sexy photos. She modeled a variety of clothing for this fashion photography studio session. I also tossed her some mardi gras masks (or masquerade masks), along with a cigarette holder that looks amazing in photos. I’m always excited to do photos using smoke, though lighting smoke can be very difficult at times.

Here is a studio portrait photography session with Caitlin. I’d have to say that Caitlin is one of the more naturally beautiful models I have ever shot, and that exudes in the photos. With a background in dance and acting, her expressions really show through in a cute and sexy way. She had this great vintage bra that I matched with an old hat I got at the local Goodwill store recently. I also used her to experiment with colored gels used in abundance, which is something that I’m dying to push to the extreme. Here is a studio portrait session I did with Monique, an actress. I love the expressions she gave me during the shoot. I played with a very “white” lighting setup for this shoot, with tons of overflowing light from the background and what not. I actually tripped my circuit breakers a few times during the shoot, which is tough with only strobed lighting (no continuous lighting).

Today I shot Lyndsey, a dancer and amateur model. We experimented with shallow depth of field portraits, silhouetted dance photos, underwater photography (with studio lighting), and backlit steam. Underwater photography is something that I’m currently trying to experiment with and hopefully perfect, especially with the many logistical challenges.

Experimental – Oil + Water

Here I am experimenting with water droplets on oil (on glass). The unique textures created amazing light patterns that seemed to dance across the frame. Understanding how different materials work is essential in product photography, so this was a good chance to play. I’m sure I’ll do the same to a model soon. Wendy is an amateur model that is getting back into it after time off. She helped me play with shooting Vale Tudo shorts, which I’m testing out for a potential MMA calendar that I’m thinking about photographing. I also started playing with light gradations on the backdrop. This was a great fashion photography / portrait photography session that produced some sexy photos.
